About Comfish
The farm has been established at the plantation Rust & Werk, and is located on the right-hand riverbank of the Commewijne river, approximately 5 km from the Atlantic Ocean and close to the capital city Paramaribo. Currently we have 4.5 ha soil build ponds (semi-intensive) and 2.7 ha concrete ponds (intensive) available.

In the beginning of Comfish, the company started with an experiment to breed freshwater shrimps and different kinds of fish. In 1994 a new aquaculture project was built for the cultivation of Red Tilapia and brackish water shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). The maximum production of Red Tilapia was 420 tons on a yearly base. Due to export barriers the production of Red Tilapia was stopped in 2001.
From the year 2000 till 2016 shrimp was cultivated. The production of shrimp was stopped in october 2016, due to low market prices and poor export possibilities. Currently Comfish produces only fish for the local market: Red Tilapia, Gourami and Tambaqui. Besides fish production Comfish also executes research and development experiments with agricultural products as vegetables and tubers.
